Ephemerides of July 7: leaving Matane a month earlier Le Jehan arrives in La Rochelle in 1616

On July 7, 1616, the Jehan (or Jean) arrived in La Rochelle barely a month after leaving Matane. This trading trip would have been the last to be made by the Rochelais in Matane.

The expedition to Matane was quickly materially successful, the boat with a capacity of 60 tons, was in Matane on June 1, 1616 and the accounts were settled after its return, on July 7 between the Rochelais.

Hazardous, reckless and independent activity

Daniel Braignault and Pierre Georges had their seventh full of furs, because they exercised the right of option and paid 99 livres 15 sols, the seventh part of the 698 livres due in pledge to Bodier and others, reports in his book La tradition maritime de Matane (1534-1984).

According to him, the Rochelais merchants on the St. Lawrence, more specifically in Matane, deployed a risky, reckless and independent activity there that official history has long ignored.
