First, check the label on your pillow to confirm that it is washable. Most down and synthetic pillows are safe to wash.

You will need the following ingredients:

Machine washing is not an option for many types of pillows. But these still need to be cleaned from time to time. A vacuum or lint roller helps with basic issues like dust, dander, and pet hair that get into pillows over time.

How to get rid of odors and mould?

To clean a moldy pillow while eliminating unpleasant odors, simply sprinkle some baking soda on it. Leave on for at least 30 minutes then vacuum. If that's not enough, spray a light mist of vinegar all over the pillow, then wipe down with a mild dish soap solution and a white cloth. If there are stubborn stains, try cleaning them with isopropyl alcohol soaked on a cotton swab. Air out the treated pillow for a day or more to eliminate stubborn odors. If anyone in your home has asthma or allergies, discard the pillow and replace it with a new one to reduce health risks.

What about feather pillows?

To clean a feather pillow, you can rely on the washer and dryer. Of course, the Delicate program should be used. It is very important to make sure the pillows are completely dry before putting them back on the bed. This way you prevent the feathers from producing mold. To reduce the risk, leave the pillows near a window or a hot radiator for a few hours to be sure that the filling dries out well.

Spray your bedding with vodka. It is only necessary to wash the pillows every six months to a year. Between deep cleanings, the vodka serves as a quick-drying disinfectant that can refresh pillows when you change the sheets. Fill a spray bottle with vodka, spray the liquid on the pillows and let dry. Alcohol dries quickly, so there is no risk of mould.
