A new agreement changes the rules of the order of film exploitation. Here is the media timeline that is set to go into effect for three years from February 10.

SubscribeCinema professionals and broadcasters reached an agreement Monday at the Ministry of Culture modifying the chronology of the media, a device which governs the order of the exploitation of films.
These rules do not induce a destabilization” of “historic broadcasters (pay television and free television), which remain the main financiers of French cinema”, assures in a press release the office of the Minister of Culture, Roselyne Bachelot. Their entry into force is scheduled for February 10.
For the various media, distribution times after theatrical release are planned.
Vod/DVD/Blu-ray: 4 months
The deadline for broadcasting video on demand (Vod), DVD and Blu-ray, will remain fixed at 4 months.
Canal+: 6 months
The group will be able to broadcast works released in cinemas within 6 months, compared to 8 months previously.
Netflix: 15 months
The American streaming giant will be able to broadcast works released on the big screen 15 months after their broadcast in dark rooms, against 36 months until then.
In return, the American group “will make a commitment to film organizations to produce at least ten films a year and to invest an average of €40 million (i.e. 4% of its turnover in France )”, explains Le Monde.
Amazon Prime Video and Disney+: 17 months
Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ will have to meet a deadline of 17 months, compared to 36 months previously.
Free channels: 22 months
For free channels, the time between theatrical release and television broadcast will be maintained at 22 months.
A platform that offers a film released in theaters will be required to remove it from its catalog “in the 22nd month, when TF1, M6 or France Télévisions can broadcast it”, indicates Le Parisien / Today in France. However, “agreements can be concluded between a platform and a terrestrial channel” allowing broadcasting by both means, specifies the newspaper.

For Netflix, the amount of the monthly plan varies between €8.99 and €17.99 per month. Amazon Prime is available for €5.99 per month or €49 per year, after a 30-day free trial. Disney+ offers either a subscription at €8.99 per month or an annual subscription at €89.9.
