Ikea offers to take up your old furniture in exchange for a purchase voucher

Do you move or have decided to change your interior, but you don't know what to do with your furniture purchased from Ikea? The Swedish furnishings giant has the solution: thanks to a service called "second life of furniture", the distributor offers to resume your old furniture purchased from Ikea in exchange for a voucher to resell them in its stores. If it has existed since 2014, this service has experienced real acceleration in recent months, with growth of + 80% over the period from September 2019 to January 2020 compared to the same period the previous year.

Questioned by Business Insider France, the brand confirmed that it wanted to register this service even more clearly in the group's strategy in France: "Inspire a more sustainable lifestyle at home to its customers is a priority for IKEA France. This service encourages the extension of the lifespan of products and is part of a circular economy approach ".It has been improved recently: a new tool offering to estimate online the price of the furniture to be resumed was put online by IKEA.Tested in Nantes, Evry and Reims stores during the month of August, it is now available in all points of sale of the brand offering the second-life service, that is to say all stores except IKEALa Madeleine (75) and that of Vélizy (78).

Ikea propose de reprendre vos anciens meubles en échange d'un bon d'achat

Be careful not to overvalue the condition of your IKEA furniture under penalty of unpleasant surprises at the time of recovery

How does it work concretely? The customer interested in selling a product goes to the LKEA website, in the section dedicated to the "Second life of furniture" service. After having checked three boxes detailing the recovery conditions, he accesses on the next page to choose from the categories of furniture (office, bedroom, dining room...) and product subcategories. The furniture is then offered by names, stored in alphabetical order and a search engine also helps if the exact name of the article is not known.Once the product has been found and selected, it is necessary to determine its general condition by using photos: "like new", "good condition" or "widely used".An indicative recovery price is then offered by Ikea, as well as an estimate number and a QR-Code.

If the customer wishes to proceed to the takeover, he must indicate in which store and on what date he wishes to carry out his article. The product must then be deposited within a maximum of 15 days. Please note, if the potential seller was a little too optimistic about the general condition of his furniture, Ikea reserves the right to offer him a lower recovery price at the time of exchange in the store. An evaluation is indeed carried out on site by a seller, in the returns and exchanges service.

Not all Ikea furniture is affected by this recovery service

Once the product has been taken up, the customer leaves with a card to have ikea, valid everywhere in France. The recovered furniture is then offered for sale in the "good find" space of the Swedish giant stores. If they never find takers after a while, they are then removed from the sale and eliminated "in a responsible manner," said Ikea on his site.

Only furniture marketed by IKEA between 2010 and today are eligible for this service. The customer must also bring them to the store fully mounted and in good general condition. The convertible sofas, the wall shelves, the mattresses, the outdoor products, the articles for children and baby or the decoration accessories are conversely excluded from the second life service of the furniture and cannot be taken up by the brand.
