In San Francisco, a villa celebrates feminine creation

Margaret Coblentz, founder of Frances Austen, a brand specializing in ethical cashmere, and Geoff Miller, an investor, live in a house in the 1970s located in a family district of San Francisco: Cole Valley.“In life and at work, Margaret Coblentz favors artists, businesses and brands represented by women and in line with feminism. She does the same for her house, ”explains Senalee Kapelevich, a designer based in San Francisco and founder of SVK Interior Design, the studio in charge of the decoration project.

À San Francisco, une villa célèbre la création au féminin

Eight months were necessary to rethink the volumes of this house before the agency concentrates "on furniture as such," explains the decorator.“Our customers like to receive their friends and family, but they have children. We had to guide our choices according to this parameter.»»

“The challenge consisted above all in bringing up to date certain slightly dilapidated pieces, such as bathrooms.Despite their small area, we have tried to optimize the space as best as possible by finding clever storage solutions, continues Senalee Kapelevich. We also installed a bar in the living room, modernized the original floor and, finally, improved the lighting and brightness of the house, both architectural and decorative.»»

The house has a large living room, high ceilings and several views of the surrounding park.“I am very fan of the dining room. The associations of materials and objects are quite unexpected, but remain very elegant, ”adds the designer, before dwelling on the specificity of the house: her art collection.“The owners wanted to support female artists.Besides, all the works of the house are signed by women!»»

"This house really reflects the personality of its owners," continues the decorator.“They love art, design, and were very involved in the home design process and the selection of elements of the decor. They like to experiment and were not afraid to install a white sofa in their living room despite their three children.I think it speaks volumes about their philosophy!Besides, they have had two other children since we finished this house, ”adds the founder of the SVK Interior Design agency.“We continued to work with them on two other interior projects: the first is near vineyards in California, the second in the mountains.Again, Margaret Coblentz and Geoff Miller have excellent tastes. They are not afraid to take risks in terms of colors, patterns and works of art.I am delighted!"Concludes Senalee Kapelevich.
